Pretty in Pink and another bordered sentiments attempt

I've got another card for the CAS-ual Fridays challenge, Pretty in Pink.  Why don't you play along too?  You could win a $20 gift certificate here:
I do not usually gravitate towards pink but this is a fun way for me to stretch my creative muscles ... that is, if I have any! :)

My mom gave me some paint chips from Sherwin Williams that she got and I took a bunch of the pink ones to use for this challenge.  I used my Happy Trails die to cut out the butterflies.  I popped them up on foam dots and then stamped the Fillable Frames sentiment in Jenni Bowlin fountain pen ink.  Super simple.

My next card combined the Make it Monday challenge (Bordered Sentiments) from Papertrey Ink and some pink shades for CAS-ual Fridays.
I stamped BB: Newsprint in Versamagic Pixie Dust and then layered Embellishments' swirls in Jenni Bowlin chewing gum over top.
I used Sassafras Stitchery for some faux stitching as my border and Hero Arts Made with Love for the sentiment.  I love these sentiments because they're nice and big, just like PTI's Think Big series.

Supplies:
Paper: PTI Vintage White, Sherwin Williams paint chips
Ink:  Jenni Bowlin fountain pen
Stamps: PTI Fillable Frames
Misc: foam dots, PTI Happy Trails die (butterfly)
Paper: PTI Vintage White
Inks: Fresh Inks slate, Versamagic Pixie Dust, Jenni Bowlin chewing gum
Stamps: PTI BB: Newsprint, Embellishments; Hero Arts Made with Love
; Sassafras Stitchery
Misc: Eclipse masking paper

Papertrey Make it Monday #71 - Bordered Sentiments

This week, the talented Betsy showed us how to make bordered sentiments.  It's a fun and easy masking technique:

I decided to use the colour combination from Moxie Fab's Tuesday Trigger a while back as the jumping off point of my first card:
I used some Fresh inks and imperfectly inked them to give a more rugged feel to the card.
I used my beloved but not used lately BB: Vines stamp to do the background and then used Faux Ribbon as my line ... You see, I'm not so good at drawing my own lines, even with a ruler! :)  I then selectively inked the Think Big sentiment with two different colours used on the vines as well.

Supplies:
Paper: PTI Vintage Cream
Stamps: PTI BB: Vines, Think Big sentiments, Faux Ribbon
Ink: Fresh navy, slate, maroon
Misc: Eclipse masking paper

CASual Fridays: Pretty in pink

Well, CASual Fridays has come up with another great challenge:
The DT showcased some amazing examples and it inspired me to get pink and inky.  I found this gorgeous ephemera digital paper set from Melstampz and just had to use it!
I only had access to a black and white printer so I printed the hexagons out and then took some ink to them.  I swiped lots and lots of Versamagic Pink Petunia onto the printed cardstock.  Then I die cut out a hexagon shape and used a larger one with that same die to create a frame in chocolate cardstock.  I adhered it with Tombo Mono Multi glue (this stuff rocks!) and layered the vellum behind.
I stamped the sentiment in Coffeebean Brilliance ink - this ink works really well on vellum and acetate because once it dries, it is there forever!  Great alternative to StazOn and way more pretty colours!
I added a layer of white digital paper behind the sentiment and popped the whole panel up on a card base with some foam dots.
Thanks to Mel and her generous designs for this one! :)

I made another one with shades of pink as well.  Simple layout but a useful general card to have in my stash.
I love the combination of gray (or is it grey?) and pink.  I stamped the Pretty Peonies solid flower over and over again on the Simply Jane patterned paper using Brilliance Pearlescent Orchid.  I edged it with some Distress Ink Antique Linen.  Then I added a Happy Day die stamped with the outline of the flower in Versamark and the sentiment in PTI's Vintage Cream ink. Some foam dots and that's it!

Sunshine Fund creations

I am in charge of creating cards for the Sunshine Fund at our school - when people go through life's ups and downs, we send a card and gift.  Now that it is the end of the school year, there are quite a few to make.

For my first card, it had to be a masculine one.  I, like many, always struggle making more masculine creations but I did my best:
I stamped Turning a New Leaf in Fresh pear ink all over a piece of Enchanted Evening ink.  Then I took an embossed (not sure which?) angled label and stamped the Faux Ribbon sentiment in Vintage Cream ink.  I even stamped the frame in some Jenni Bowlin fountain pen ink.  I used some foam dots and mounted it on a kraft card base.
My next one was also masculine for a Math teacher ... so I used the Numbers impression plate inked up with Vintage Cream ink.
I had to keep this one flat so that lots of people can sign it on both sides of the inside so I just used some scor tape to adhere each layer.  It really goes against my instincts not to pop up the layers! :)
I used another sentiment from Faux Ribbon - this set has some really great sentiments!  I stamped it on a piece of textured kraft with some Jenni Bowlin fountain pen ink.  I think it's masculine enough for its recipient.

Okay, the next one is more girly, that's for sure!! I took my new Studio Calico Take Note 6x6 pad
and used it as a main panel.  I love the papers in this pack!! Take a look:
I then stamped a Rosie Posie flower and a Think Big Sentiment.  I used some of the opaque Fresh inks (steel blue and navy) to give it an interesting look:
It's mounted on a piece of Aqua Mist which really matches the patterned paper well.  I added some Rock Candy Stickles on the top part of the flower but this is hard to capture on film:
A little corner rounding and that's it!

For my next one, we have a colleague having a baby this summer.  So I took my new Studio Calico/Hero Arts Starburst Cling Stamp and stamped it as a background.  This is a really cool stamp and I am excited about the possibilites with it.  I can see it looking really cool as an embossed background.
I didn't perfectly ink up the stamp to give it a more distressed look.  I used some Fresh harvest ink and then stamped the sky blue over top using an elephant stamp from an Inkadinkado set.

I used a cute sentiment from Everyday Button Bits stamped in Fresh navy.

My final card is for a wedding happening this summer.  I have always been enamoured with Maile Belles' great style and was so excited to buy her Gracious Vases set.  It is so elegant and beautiful.  I decided to use this for my wedding card.
I used Ocean Tides as a backdrop and stamped the vase in Jenni Bowlin black and then the orchids and sentiment in Vintage Cream.  I used some glitter pens to colour in the flowers.  I ran the whole thing through my Big Kick with the linen impression plate.  Love the extra detail that gives!

So now I have to take all these cards to work and get people to sign them in preparation for our Sunshine Breakfast.  Gotta get going on buying the gifts too! :)

Hexagon Love

Well, I have seen hexagons all over the place and finally took the plunge and bought a set of hexagon nesting dies.  There are 15 in all so you get some great matting possibilities.
I cut an Andrea Victoria My Mind's Eye card with a larger hexagon and then a smaller one for the sentiment.  Fun, huh?  The sentiment is from Studio Calico/Hero Arts' Wonderful World.
I made another with a larger middle portion featuring a fun sentiment from  Fabulous by Technique Tuesday.
For this one, I cut a bunch of hexagons from the Simply Jane patterned paper (PTI) and then swiped chamomile tea dye ink around the edges before adhering them to Aqua Mist cardstock.  I stamped the Think Big Favourites sentiment on vellum and wrapped it around the front panel before adhering it to an Autumn Leaves kraft card.
Since I used vellum, I will enter this one into the challenge over at CAS-ual Fridays:

Next, I tried a shabby vintage look on this one with lots of layers of inking and stamping.  I got this fun set from Cavallini & Co with all sorts of airmail and postage stamps.  I stamped off the Brown Sugar Jenni Bowlin ink and stamped a whole bunch of images all over the panel.
Then I stamped the hexagon background (Market Street Stamps) over the whole front without stamping off.  I stamped the sentiment in Vintage Cream ink and swiped more of the ink around the outside and smudged it with my fingers.
I mounted it with foam dots on a vintage cream card.  Not my usual style but I quite like it!

Now, I celebrated Father's Day a little early and I've already posted my Father's Day card that I made using the MIM technique of a pocket card:
I wrapped up his gift with some tissue paper that I stamped with 'Vater' (German for Father) using my new Stepping Stone Alphabet set:

I crumpled the tissue a bit and then repeatedly stamped it all over.  I even stamped a manila tag and used Fillable Frames as well.
I used the globe image stamped off from this Wonderful World stamp set:

He loved that it was so personalized!  That's why I love using alphabet sets ... you can write their name, a special sentiment or whatever you like.

So, have you been caught by a new trend and purchased something new lately?

Papertrey Make it Monday #70: Puffed Fabric Accents

This week over at Papertrey Ink, the talented Erin Lincoln showed us how to make puffed fabric accents:
I took out some dies and went to town.  With the Sending You dies, the smaller one doesn't have one to nest so I cut some  foam dots and stacked them instead.
I also didn't have fun foam so I used a stacked pile of cardboard die cuts instead for the other one.  It works just fine!  In the video, Erin used fabric but I decided to use some felt instead.  Love the tactile element it adds!
I did some impressing with the canvas impression plate for some added texture.

For my next card, I used a stack of Beautiful Blooms with white felt:
For this one I used the Newsprint stamp as the background and then layered the puffed felt accent up on top with a button.
A colleague's father passed away so I had a sympathy card to make ... I kept it simple and more masculine:
I just love the Mehndi Medallions set.  I requested it a long time ago and was so excited to see it come out!  And my comment was picked as the winner so it actually was in a prize pack I received - I felt so lucky! :)
